The picture of Dorian Gray

PLOT OF THE BOOK

The story begins in the studio of the painter Basil Hallward,
where he decides to paint a painting for a boy
named Dorian Gray
.

Dorian is a beautiful young man who, both for his physical appearance and his way of thinking, arouses particular interest in everyone. The portrait given to him by the painter is so successful that the boy, admiring him, expresses the regret of getting old, while the portrait would have remained always young, and makes a real pact with the devil to ensure that the opposite happens.

Dorian's life changed radically when he met Lord Henry Wotton, a cynical nobleman, who with his ideas on pleasure and beauty manages to change Dorian's life
and youthful purity.

Later on he became engaged to Sybil Vane, but Dorian's change causes the story to end badly, in fact, he abandons her coldly. She kills herself and Dorian, easily overcome, thanks to the suggestions of Lord Henry, the first pain, spends the same evening in the theater, as if nothing had happened.

The next day, however, he discovers that his portrait had changed
in fact, there was an expression of cruelty that had not been there before;
at this point he decides to hide it in the attic and continues his life full of vices, preserving intact his beautiful face as a young man, meanwhile the painting ages and gets more horrible.

One night he kills Basil Hallward;Dorian is not disclosed but the picture becomes increasingly monstrous.

In the end, tired and sickened by that portrait that testified to his faults and his internal brutality,
Dorian Gray strikes with a knife the heart of the portrait but he falls dead himself
while the painting regains the appearance it had at the beginning.
